African Ladies Handbag. Produced from authentic African mudcloth.
Mudcloth is made using ancient and extensive process. Fabric is all hand spun
making seven individual cloth sheets in this work. Each strip of cloth is then
sewed together. The entire piece of fabric is then dyed in tea made from Bogalon
tree found in sub-Saharan Africa. The tea acts as a fixative for mud painted designs
that are hand painted using specially prepared mud. This piece has been bleached
after entire process is complete to give a lighter look: unique and more treasured.
Mud dye has been used for many centuries to pass African culture from generation to
generation. $46.00 Item # C-A010. |

The trademark hat of the Fulani people of West Africa.
The red material and the tassels are leather. The tan is straw. It is further
decorated with hand made cloth items. It is approximately 14" in diameter: making it
the larger of two hats that the Fulani will wear. The Fulani are migrant cattle herders
found throughout West Africa. Because of their migrant nature, they have adopted much of
the art of many different cultures into their own. They are a very proud people; and take
exceptional care of their appearance. Jewelry, clothing, and most of all their personal
physical appearance, are given a tremendous amount of attention and effort by this tribe.
This hat is one of the few things that is common to the tribe throughout a broad expanse
of 'West Africa. A true collectors item, and a work of great cultural significance. Item#
